- TRIPS TO VALMIERA
Mūrmuiža is first mentioned in documents from the 17th century. The oldest building of the major is a fortified tower built in the 16th century. It was intially the dwelling tower of the Livoniean Order outside the city. As the chamber of the village it was first used for sacral and then commercial activities. The renovated manor-house now houses Beverīna regional municipality. The building also has a room set up in rememberance of Zenta Mauriņa.
The Church was built in the 17th century, later rebuilt. It has an 8th century relief “The Christening of Christ”, as well as a pulpit and a pipe organ (1867, A. Martins).
Location: Trikāta, Beverīnas region
The most beautiful adornment of Valmiera is the rapid and ever changing Gauja River and its natural, vacant riverbanks. If you are lucky, you might meet not only a roe family that has wandered into the city, but also the “hardworking managers” of the riverbanks – the beavers.
Those who want to find out and to observe nature, have to go to Love trail that goes along the river. Trail is 2km long, starts from camping site „Jaunarāji”
There are picnic areas and fire places.
