The project "Zaļie Dzelceļi" or "Green Railways" envisages the arrangement of the infrastructure of the former railway lines in Vidzeme and Southern Estonia, creating a total of about 750 km long joint bicycle / hiking route, most of which leads along the former railway lines. One of the sections of the route can be started from Valmiera railway station. The route leads along the ancient narrow-gauge railway line "Valmiera-Ainaži" - through fields, forests, and along specially designed bridges over rivers. In some places, the route leads along asphalt or gravel roads created as connecting sections of the route. Green Railway sections and their connections in nature are marked. In Valmiera, they are blue "Green Railways" bicycle route signs, while in Kocēni region it is possible to continue the route by following the bicycle signs with number 14. The route can be continued to Ainaži. Its total length is 85 km. Information stands have been set up on the route to introduce the history of the railway and objects located near the route.
