On August 2nd and 3rd, Valmiera Region will shine with hospitality, gourmet delights and summer magic, welcoming the annual Home Cafe Days, which will be held throughout parts of Valmiera for the fifth time. This year, 26 home cafes will open the gates of their homes, farms and other beloved places to visitors, offering both their favorite dishes and drinks, as well as a lively cultural and entertainment program.
The group of home cafe hosts will include not only experienced hosts, but also brave ones who will experience the honor of home cafe hosts for the first time. However, it is already clear that their joy of doing business, hospitality and creativity will make this event a special experience for both guests and hosts themselves. Gourmets from near and far will be welcomed in home cafes throughout Valmiera region: from Brenguļi, Kauguri and Trikāta, in Jērcēni parish, in Naukšēni and Ķoņi parish, in Rūjiena, in Ēvele and Jeri parishes, on the Mazsalaca side – in Ramata and Skaņkalne parishes, on the Burtnieki side – in Burtnieki and Vecate parishes, in Dikļi, Kocēni and Kocēni parishes, on the Vaidava side and in Valmiera. An interactive map with all home cafes in Valmiera Region, their offerings and opening hours can be viewed here https://ej.uz/mājas_kafejnīcas_2025.
Everyone will be able to find their own taste in the menus of home cafes: they will include both their own favorites, traditional, thematic, and recipes borrowed from their ancestors, special twists and culinary surprises. Seasonal meals in modern interpretations will be in high demand. Several cafes will also offer vegetarian cuisine. More information about the specific offer can be viewed on the websites majaskafejnicas.lv andvisit.valmiera.lv. Starting from mid-July, the informative brochure will also be available at the Valmiera Tourism Information Centre (Bruņinieku street 1), the Zilākalns Cultural History and Visitors Centre (Parka street 2, Zilaiskalns) and the Skaņākalns Nature Park Visitors Centre (Parka street 36, Mazsalaca), as well as in digital format.
Home Cafe Days are more than just a meal – they are meetings and stories. Stories about love for work, one’s home, nature, hobbies and people. They will be possible to experience in various ways – in exhibitions, creative performances, musical enjoyment, home-made markets, handicraft skills, tasting the peace and magic of the countryside, viewing households, petting animals, trips with various vehicles, thematic activities, delicious tastings that allow you to get to know the diversity of local flavors, and in other ways. The owners of the home cafes will have considered both big and small guests, offering not only separate meals for children’s tastes in several cafes, but also entertainment opportunities. This year too, there will be no shortage of magical sunsets, secrets of local crafts and warmth of the heart.
For those seeking additional cultural enjoyment, Valmiera Summer Theatre Festival will be a great continuation of the weekend. It should be noted that this year the Valmiera Summer Theatre Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary, offering visitors to experience 13 different performances from both the festival’s golden fund and new productions. We also invite guests to combine their visit to the home cafes with other cultural events in the region, which will be in a wide range on the first weekend of August – a concert by the band “Brainstorm” in Valmiera, Rūjiena Town Festival, Lake Burtnieks Festival, etc.
Before going to one of the in-house cafes, we encourage you to be careful and check the cafe’s opening hours, as well as whether a visit needs to be booked in advance!
The aim of the Home Cafe Days is to promote the development of local tourism, community cooperation and regional identity, highlighting the characteristics of the region through taste and people. The initiative is organized by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia in cooperation with the LLTA “Lauku ceļotājs” and regional municipalities. Last year, 29 home cafes hosted more than 4,500 guests from different parts of Latvia and the world.
Please be informed that photography and filming will be done during the event. The photographs and video materials will be used for Valmiera Region Municipality publicity purposes.
See you on August 2nd and 3rd in Valmiera Region – a place where taste meets heart!
