From 9th to 12th June partners of the project “Hanseatic Approach to New Sustainable Alliances” (HANSA) participated at the 36th International Hanseatic Day in Bergen (Norway). HANSA cities Pärnu, Viljandi (both – Estonia), Visby (Sweden), Kuldīga, Limbaži, Straupe and Valmiera (all – Latvia) presented city stands and offered entertaining performances. Project HANSA manager Inger Harlevi and Vidzeme Planning Region project manager Rūta Vasermane presented HANSA project and its communication activities in a seminar for tourism professionals.

From June 26 till July 9 in the manufactory of the Vaidava Ceramics Ltd. near Valmiera which is also part of the Rīga-Gauja European Region of Gastronomy the 1st International Pottery Symposium “CLAYMEAL” will be held. It will gather 17 artists from Latvia, Switzerland, the United States, Spain, Georgia, Argentine, Ireland, Norway, Turkey, Jordan, Russia, Finland and Israel to create dishes from the red clay found in the Lode quarry. Two world class pottery artists - Vincent Kampenaers from Belgium and Inita Reimandova from Latvia - will host the symposium.

On May 21 the Valmiera Tourist Information Centre together with the Valmiera Technical School and the “Valmiermuižas alus” brewery organized a masterclass-degustation “Dabas garša – Burtnieka zandarts” (Taste of Nature – Burtnieki pike-perch) [1]. It was led by the head chef of the restaurant “Restorāns 3” Ēriks Dreibants.

Last week partners of the project “Hanseatic Approach to New Sustainable Alliances” (HANSA) visited European Institute of Cultural Routes and German Hanseatic cities Lemgo and Lübeck. The Hansa is one of the Certified Routes, and partners learned, how project’s development and promotion can benefit from that label. Study tour participants also explored, what a small Hanseatic city can do to manage marketing and promotion.

On January 2016 the Valmiera City Council signed a partnership agreement with the Inspiration Gotland, which is the main partner of the project “Hanseatic Approach to New Sustainable Alliances (HANSA)”. Project gathers 10 partners from Latvia, Estonia and Sweden and it aims at highlighting unique Hanseatic values in each of the partner-cities and combine them in one common tourism offer. Therefore enhancing the visibility of the Hansa brand and motivating travellers to get to know the historical Hanseatic cities.
