GREEN RAILWAY RŪJIENA – MÕISAKÜLA
24 km long Rūjiena – Mõisaküla Green Railway route follows a former broad-gauge railway line that once connected Latvia and Estonia.Today, the line has been revived as a peaceful and scenic trail for walkers and cyclists.
The route can be started from Rūjiena, where it is marked with blue Green Railways signs as a connecting section leading to the former Rūjiena railway station site, near the V174 regional road. From there, the trail continues northward, deep into the quiet and remote Latvian–Estonian borderland.
The true charm of this section lies in its tranquility and untouched natural beauty. The trail winds through sparsely populated and marshy landscapes, offering a unique experience far from urban life. The route crosses seven bridges, spanning over rivers and small streams.
The route is partially adapted for people with functional impairments. Access for people with mobility impairments may be difficult; however, certain sections may be accessible with a companion.
Road surface: natural unpaved road — a mix of soil, sand, and/or gravel. In certain areas, the road surface may pose a greater physical challenge (such as sand or mud).
