GREEN RAILWAY

The route leads along the ancient narrow-gauge railway line Smiltene-Valmiera-Ainaži – through fields, forests and specially designed bridges over rivers. In some places, the route leads along asphalt or gravel roads, which are created as connecting sections of the route. Green Railway sections and their connections in nature are marked. In Valmiera, these are the blue Green Railways cycle route signs, while in the rest of the territory – the bicycle signs with the number 14. The total length of the route is 128 km, but you can divide it into sections according to your capabilities. Information stands have been set up throughout the route to introduce visitors to the history of the railway and the nearby attractions.
