VĪSRAGS NATURE TRAIL

The Vīsrags Nature Trail has been established in the nature reserve Burtnieku ezera pļavas. It starts at the Silver Gate of the Burtnieki Manor Park, leading through the park to the floodplain meadows of lake Burtnieks and Ēķinupe, which is an internationally important nesting place for protected birds. One of the stops on the trail is the viewing tower, from which you can see the floodplain meadows and the south-eastern shore of the lake, where the tower of the stately Burtnieki church stands. Binoculars and a camera will be especially useful here, because with them you can capture not only fabulous natural landscapes, but also a special species of birds.

Going along the trail, you can also see one of the oldest objects – the castle ruins of the Livonian Order. The stage of the park reminds of a historically important event – the premiere of the 1988 rock opera Lāčplēsis. There are interactive information stands on the trail, which will allow both young and old to test their knowledge about nature.

The trail, which is just over 2 km long, takes about 45 minutes to complete.
