STRENČI CHURCH

The church was built in 1907 in the style of national romanticism, which developed within the framework of Art Nouveau. This is evidenced by the shape of the church windows and doorways, but the influence of this style is especially evident in the interior decoration of the church, where the ornamental color combines Christian and ethnographic symbols..

In 1935, the church was in a very bad condition and the tower was in danger of collapsing. In 1936, the old church tower was rebuilt, all the exterior and interior of the building were finished

In the church you can see a unique painting of Christ and Peter at sea by Indriķis Zeberiņš, but during the summer season you can glance at Strenči from the windows of the church tower.

The church is one of the stops on the Turna – Strenči section of the Camino Latvia route, where you can receive both healing and a stamp in your Pilgrim’s passport.
